problem with secure internet sites

Postby clamotte » Oct 30 04 2:51 am

A possible client has a problem. What I know so far is as follows:
"My computer used to work fine. All three computers talked to one another. My computer person installed something called Wingate. Well it turns out Wingate had a timer. Suddenly the timer stopped and so did my computers talking to one another. Well we paid for the latest version of Wingate and my computers talked to one another but my computer can no longer access all secure sites. I can access my Fleet accounts, but cannot access my Fidelity accounts, nor my quiken accounts nor my mass DOR site.

However, everything works fine with dial up. Once I switch to the AOL for DSL, all I get is a screen that is blank and says done.

My computer guy has given up basically. He tried buying a D-Link router. Did not work. Turns out AOL says they do not support D-Link they support netgear and linksys. I presently have a Netgear hub that has worked in the past and works with dial up. My present setup is that my DSL comes into the modem and goes to my computer. Than the other computers are supported off my computer.

We have tried to delete Port Magic. I do not think I have a firewall running. I have deleted cookies, files and history. I have done many steps. I have tried running other browsers, but to no avail."
Any help with this would be great. I'm not really familiar with WinGate, but I would like to help him.
Thanks

Hi

First thing to check is adapter settings in WinGate, particularly usage. Go to the Network pane in GateKeeper, and make sure the adapter usage is correct.

Secondly, for secure sites, how are the browsers configured? Are they connecting though the WinGate WWW proxy, or do they use Network Address Translation (where the default gateway setting in their TCP/IP settings is set to the IP address of the WinGate machine).
