AVP*.tmp files in Wingate folder

Oct 12 04 8:51 pm

Just noticed there are 130 AVP*.tmp files in my C:\Program Files\Wingate (total about 240MB).

1) what are they?
2) can i delete them?
3) can i stop them from being created?
4) or, can i get them to save to a different path by changing something in the registry?

thanks. :)

Are you running any plugins? Those 'look' like Kaspersky AntiVirus for WinGate temp buffering files, but they should be going to the folder where %TEMP% is pointing to. They should also be cleared up when they are done with. Are you running an OS + filesystem that allows you to set file-level permissions?

The machine is running Windows NT Server v4sp6.
The temp is set to c:\temp.
We have the Kaspersky Plug-in installed, and Wingate v5.2.2.

And which version of Kaspersky is that? What were the dates of those files; were they relatively recent?

They seem to have started in 16-Aug and the most recent ones are dated 7-Oct.
Kaspersky version 1.2.2 ; Engine version 4.0.2.23 ; Last updated 13-Oct-04.
We first installed the Kaspersky plug-in in March this year.

Ok, I was wrong - I cannot find any reference to the AVP*.tmp files in any of the plugin or support code; they must have been from a significantly older version (And you have the latest) or I'm misremembering.

If you open one of the files with a text editor (Like NotePad, be careful to not accidentally execute them) do they look sensible / recognisable in any way?

Hi Pascal

No, when i open one of the files with a text editor they DO NOT look sensible or recognisable - just strange characters and symbols.
...and most files are really big, like over 2MB.

thanks
