Wingate and Sygate

Postby laurentiu907 » Nov 04 04 7:29 am

Hi!

I'm somehow in a little problem.

I bought a copy of Sygate Personal Firewall to protect my Internet connection and I wanted to test Wingate application from Qbik for Internet sharing...

The problem is as follows...
Although I instated "Allow Always" for Wingate application when trying to access the network, the client computers tell me that they can't "see" the Wingate server active in the Control Panel applet...

I resolved it for now, by adding the server manually in the list, and setting proxy settings in the browser and client applications.. but not all the applications work like this...

Can you tell me what can I do, or what ports to open for the Wingate server to be "visible"?

I wanted to ask this on Sygate forum, but then I thought that this is a Wingate issue, more that a Sygate one...
You are the ones who know what ports is the Wingate server using.

Thanks!

Hi there

WinGate Internet Client(Wgic) uses GDP on port 368 to locate the WinGate server on the network. It also communicates using WRP(Winsock redirector Service on port 2080 with the WinGate server). .

As a firewall Sygate shouldnt try and block communication on these ports since any communication is between internal private ip addresses (i.e the lan interfaces of the two machines).

However these are the ports you will need to allow, in order for the WGIC to work correctly, if your Sygate firewall is configured is configured to block local communications. WinGate firewall by default will not block communication between interfaces it deems are internal,(private IPs).

Hi!

It's me again, with a new problem...

I can see the server now automaticaly in the Control Panel Applet, but when the Wingate Dialer Applet starts, it doesn't show any traffic incoming or outgoing between the computers...

Can you help me?

Are there other ports that I needed to open for it to show the traffic?

Thanks!
