SMTP not working

Postby jecoyote » Jun 03 05 2:00 pm

Hello there!

i have a problem with my smtp service

i was using version 4.11 until a few weeks ago, then make an upgrade to version 6.0.1 (install over the old one) it just kept all my settings like they were before.

some problems that i had in the old version were solve with this step.

a few days ago while on vacation the server start to disconnect from internet. ask my partners and nobody has made any change on the server, it just start by it self.

i just reinstall everything, reconfigure my setting, give the permissions that all users had, all went back to normal except for one thing : My SMPT not working.

i have changed the allow relay on the incoming mail on the smtp service and nothing.

if u can give an idea of how to solve this i'll preciated.

Thx in advcd

PS:

i just telnet the port and i got the following error: connecting to xx.xx.xx.xx.... could not open the connection to host on port 25 connect fail.

did the same to the pop3 service and got answered : +OK Wingate Engine POP3 Gateway Ready

That sounds suspiciously as if:

(a) Something is blocking the port (Check firewall to see if any hits correspond to that)
(b) The service is not set to be bound to that port OR is stopped.

Can you run "netstat -ano" from a command prompt to see if WinGate is listening on port 25?

the service is set to bound to that port and even i have override default port and put in the port 25 and the service is running

When you look in the service bindings for the SMTP Server, do you see any bindings listed as "started" or visible there?

Hi,

Just a little something to add, we had another customer who was reporting the same error, they were also running McAfee antivirus and a recent update to this was blocking connections on port 25. By turning this off then could then telnet to the WinGate SMTP server and could again send emails.

Does this sound like it could be your problem?

To Pascal:

Yes the service bindings for the SMTP Server is shown as started.

To MAttP:

yes we have mcafee, i have checked the por blocking and as u say it is checked, i'm not in the office right now, but i ask a partner to check this and him could send mail by unchecking the option.

i will run the Epolicy to get this port unblock on all the computers.

thnks for everything,
I dont know what could be of all of us without your help
