wingate Java client Authentication

I am running 6.0.4 of wingate on a windows 2003 server.

I am having a problem with both Mac OS 9.2 and windows machines authtivcating through the Java client. The windows box won't display the logon box (The latest Java runtime was installed on Friday) and the Mac clients are getting a no responace on port error after I provide the details for authentiation.

I really need to sort this out if possible. the basic authentication will not work either due to the Mac's. there is no AD Doamin and the mail is being handled by Mdeaon. there are no other issues that I can see with the machine.

Any help would be greate.
