Windows Messenger unable to hold a connection.

Postby SharpEye » Aug 23 05 11:56 pm

Morning,

I am trialling the latest Wingate v 6.0.4 on a small LAN of 13 computers. An XP Pro client is unable to to keep logged into the windows messenger service. It will connect manually and you can see teh activity in the activity pane of WG, but after a few minutes Messengers shows as being offline. A manual connect will always reconnect, but it just won't hold the connection.

I have tried to connect via socks v4 and http, both with the same result. A connect via Socks v5 does not seem to work at all.

I have looked around the forums but I couldn't really see an answer and the automated help desk did not ask the correct questions to give a meaningful answer.

Beforehand I was using Browsegate for proxy services without a problem. I have uninstalled Browsegate prior to installing WG.

I intially tried to connect via WG proxies, no I have installed the WGIC on the XP machine but it has made no difference. However if I look at the activity pane the XP machine still seems to be using nat instead of WGIC. Is that right?

Can any experts out there shed some light on my problem?

Cheers

Evening SharpEye,

Probably it is the session timeout in the Socks proxy server.

Change the value or remove the timeout and report back how that helps!

Thanks for that. I have set the socks proxy timeout to 1000 and that seems to have done the trick :-)

Cheers
