Cannot logon to the wingate !

Postby surya_ok » Nov 12 03 5:24 pm

I have installed wingate 5.0.10 in win2k pro with sp4. The computer has 3 NIC. One for cable internet, one for lan A with ip 192.168.0.X, one for Lan B with 10.1.0.X. After installed, I logon to gatekeeper, change password and then exit. After 5-10 minutes I cannot logon to the gatekeeper anymore. The service seem to stop, but in task manager I still can see wingate. I have checked for the viruses, but no viruses found. I also have patch the security hole. I have to restart the computer again in order to make the wingate running again. Yesterday I installed wingate 5.1, it run smooth.
Until this morning I noticed that the service is stopped (red icon). I restart the service many times but the connection with the gatekeeper keep terminated. After I re-install the software, the problem still the same like 5.0.10. The service is not stop but I cannot logon to the server. 'There was a problem connecting to the server. No data was received from the server during authentication'. Can you help me ? I have spent two weeks in order to make wingate running.

Are you using the ENS? If so as a quick test, could you log in to Gatekeeper (i know this is part of the problem, but if you manage to get in straight away after a reboot), and disable the ENS. (If you can't do this try renaming the driver qbikhk2k.sys). Then reboot your PC. Do you still experience the engine randomly stopping?!

Yes I'm using ENS because I want to enable support for multiple subnetworks (router) for my 3 NIC. If I reboot my PC, I still can log in to Gatekeeper but after some times I cannot log in to the the gatekeeper anymore.

So even when the ENS is taken out of the equation (just for testing purposes) you'll be unable to log in to Gatekeeper, and the engine will stop randomly?!

Just trying to narrow down where your problem lies, driver or engine.....

Yes I have try to disable the ENS and the problem is still the same. But when I disable the NIC with the IP 10.1.0.X, the wingate runs smooth.

Hi it's me again, I have try to disable the ENS, but still the same. I cannot login to the gatekeeper. But if I disable the Lan with IP 10.1.0.X, I noticed that wingate runs smooth ( at least for 1-2 days I have tried )

The computer has 3 NIC. I have try to disable one of them. I used 2 NIC, 1 for internet, 1 for Lan with IP 10.1.0.X it works. Also I try to use 1 for internet and 1 for Lan with IP 192.168.0.X it seem work too. But when I try to use 1 for Lan with IP 192 and 1 for Lan with IP 10, wingate stopped.
Just like when I try to use all of the 3NIC.
Anyone can help ?

Right, well I duplicated your set up here, and I haven't had any problems logging in to GK, with or without the ENS being active. So there must be some other config issue.

Are you logging in locally to WinGate, or are you attempting to conenct from Gatekeeper remotely? How are your bindings set in the RCP service? Can you try logging in remotely (once you have your bindings set to allow this).

It just occured to me that since your set up works for you with 1 internal nic but not 2, maybe theres some kind of loop happening between the subnets?! Are you running MS DNS?! Any other services that may cause a storm of activity between your two internal subnets?

I think I already found the problem is. I only activate the DHCP Service on the NIC with IP 192. And then I change the router address to the other NIC IP address 10.1.0.10. I accidentally found out that when the client is refreshing the IP address, the service stopped. But Thanks anyway for your help. It's all my mistake.
