Wingate Firewall "Flaming" Tab

Postby stanwoods » Nov 14 03 10:06 pm

Dear all, In wingate Firewall, (I run 3 different networks - 2 on Win2K, and 1 on NT4) running on NT4 I'm not sure why and when the "flaming" tab shows instead of the "red blob and cross". Can someone explain this?

I have networks on Win2K and NT 4, (both now Wingate 5.1) both of which show some firewall events and no "flaming" tab. I have seem the "flaming" on the W2K network but not noticed it on the NT4 network.

Does the "flaming" tab indicate a blocking action as opposed to an information event - cant find anything in Help text.

Regards

Hi, the flame icon is not the prettiest, we know this :-) However it indicates specific Firewall events such as blocked connections. You wont see this tab if you dont use the firewall / have the driver installed.
The System log displays general engine information not related to the firewall.
This system is being replaced in the next version with a more comprehensive event monitoring system.

Hi Thanks for the info - but I do have the firewall enabled (& ENS running) but the flame is missing... Since I updated to 5.1 it has disappeare and a new install on a different network does not show it. What do I do now. Have you confirmed that if there is no event the red blob with the white cross shows instead, or shoulf the flame be there all the time?

Kind Regards

It should appear when there is a firewall event. Go to the View menu, and select the firewall log. Does it appear then? Is it even available?

Hi, the only entries on the firewall log (this is the firewall tab showing as red blob with white cross) I seem to have since installing 5.1 are "Port Range" messages. This is true on both networks I have 5.1 installed on.

Stan,

Is you Default Action in Port Security set to Deny or Allow?

Stan,

Unless you have "Notify when this range is accessed" checked for each explicitly allowed range, all you will see is the denials.

OK Larry, Thanks, and just to clarify because I'm not sure I have had a specific answer on.... the Firewall tab show normally "redbolb with white cross" unless an attack occurs which is notifiable and then the tab turns "flaming"?

I've never seen the Flame.

Running W2K Pro - WinGate 5.1

I've been wondering what you were talking about!

I'll have to pay better attention.

This really worries me. I have had the flame before 5.1 when the log was showing denied attacks. I have tried to attack using "shields up" and although shields up reports closed ports the firewall reports nothing.
