trying to get wgic working

Postby gsharad007 » Oct 14 05 5:06 am

hi i need to get authentication using wgic but cant get it to work

its a 2003 server with AD and wingate users from AD. windows DHCP and DNS are working. with NAT all my users are getting authenticated as guests so i cant set user specific rights

i need user specific right with either NAT or WGIC(preffered)

WGIC is installed but it cant find my server (dont work even when manually configured)

Bottom line
wat are the basic things to do when configuring WGIC only sharing with wingate on the 2003 server(w DHCP and DNS).

am i new wingate user

Hi

WGIC finds WinGate using a UDP broadcast on port 368. this is the port that the GDP service runs on in WinGate. There can be several reasons why the client may not be able to find WinGate. There is also a workaround - where you can manually set a server to use in the WGIC configuration. The main reasons why discovery would fail are:

1. Your client is on a different subnet to the WinGate server. Because GDP uses broadcast packets to find the WinGate server, these are normally NOT forwarded by routers.

2. the GDP server is not running

3. The Winsock Redirector service is not running or not bound to the interface that clients connect on.

4. The firewall is blocking access (you would see firewall hits on port 368 in this case).

i think the trouble started after i added the wgic to group policy and it got installed on the server itself. no other firewall installed

will uninstalling both and reinstalling it fix it.

just guide me as to how to implement wgic only connections with AD users
