How to connect Linux to Wingate

Postby simons70 » Nov 18 03 8:30 pm

I have a Wingate 5.0.7 server on Windows2000 all other cleints are Windows based and they work fine with it.
The problem is the pc that has SuSe 8.2 Linux , I have managed to
surf the net with it and open any port 80 http page.
I have set the proxy of the browser to the IP of the Server PC
http 80 , ftp 8000 with the correct IP of the server.

I ca not open any FTP sites , I can not read email .
I do not have a wingate client installed in linux becuase I didnt find
the correct wigate version for it.

From the help pages on the net I have read that you can also work
without the wigate client in Linux , so my question in what should I change in my Linux that the email and ftp would work also and not only
the Htpp

Thanks

Do you have the ENS installed with WinGate? If so you can set you linux client to use the NAT. I'm not sure where the specific files to edit are in suse, but in Red Hat the file(s) are in:

/etc/sysconfig/networking/devices/

and named along the lines of 'ifcfg-eth0'.

In here you can specify the default gateway etc, which you should point at the IP of the WinGate machine.
