How to Share drives/folders accross a wingate LAN??

Postby paisleypcdoc » Oct 18 05 10:08 am

Hello,
I am using wingate the server on my LAN and I have it configured and working to share internet access between all computers. The problem is that I want to be able to share files on the network.

One PC will be a media centre PC, the other 2 will be general use. I dont know how to configure this setup.

Network summary: Server (win2003) with 3 broadband connections, 2 pc's connected via a gigabit switch to the server, wireless access point connected directly to server. Media centre PC connected to access point (with 54g wifi).

The server is just a server- it isnt used for anything else. Ideally I would like it to double up as a file server, but I also want all PC's to have access to shared folders/drives on all other pc's. Please point me in the right direction. Thanks in advance.

Hi

Normally if mulitiple computers are connected together on a LAN, they are able to share folders etc if you have your networking enabled and configured properly.

to share files, you need to create a file share on the computer doing the sharing. Do this in explorer, select the folder or disk you want to share, right-click and select properties -> sharing.

If your client machines are able to surf through the gateway, they must have basic network connectivity already working, so it should just be a matter of creating shares, and then browsing for them in network connections / network places.

Thanks. I managed to fix it. It was a windows problem, not wingate. I switched off windows firewall on client pc's and fixed incorrect setup of wireless access point.

I'm now happy. Thanks for your help.

Michael.
