Local Web pages

Hi,

Our local network, completely detached from outside world (except for wingate interface) and with all private IP addresses, has a number of devices that can be accessed via their own 'http server' (or web pages for want of a better term) for example CCTV units, networked printers, network print servers, UPS devices.

Using Iexplorer to access these device's web pages for administration always seems to be intercepted by WGIC and the Wingate server, is it possible for these 'local' pages to be accessed directly, ie without WGIC & Wingate intercepting?

Running Wingate 6.1 and WGIC 4.3 (WGIC 4.3 is more convenient then latest)

Unfortunately not, as WGIC intercepts socket calls (LSP) and will only filter out applications for Local Access, not requests made by a specific application.

1 of 2 suggestions you may want to try:

1. HOSTS file on the WinGate Server
2. Internal DNS Server to allocate domain names to private IPs.

So when a user types into Internet Explorer, www.OurInternalServer.com, WinGate will look up the Host file (Or Internal DNS server), sees there is a name for the address above, and grab it from the local network.

Another option might be to map each device to a specific port so that you could save in IE Favorites the shortcut to the device. This is what I did with my router;


Then create a favorite shortcut with property of http://xyz.com:81 and call it Router Admin Page (or whatever). Do this for each device but obviously with a different unused port

Pete, am I missing something? From your post it seems as if you can access the sites, but want to do it without WGIC and WinGate intercepting the connection. But from what the other responders have suggested, I'm not so sure now.
