PTR Record for Wingate

Postby csneo » Sep 12 06 3:30 pm

Good day,
Wingate 6.14 , WinXP Pro Sp2, I am try to setting up the email server for wingate. And i have a Fix IP which is xx.xx.xx.122 and its gateway are xx.xx.xx.121.

Now the problem is i request my ISP to set the PTR record on xx.xx.xx.122 with mail.abc.net. But when i try to send a test mail from wingate , the source show the email is send out fr xx.xx.xx.121 which do not have PTR record.

What can i do with this? Is it any miss config or i should change the PTR to xx.xx.xx.121. And if i change it to xx.xx.xx.121, when other senders send email to me the xx.xx.xx.121 is just a modem's gateway and which is not a mail server.... Will that email can send into my mail server??

Pls advice

That sounds like something to do with your router. WinGate can't itself send from an IP of a different machine, but if your other router is doing address translation that would explain it (although it makes it pointless to have a second IP).

If external people need to connect to that other IP, that's the one you should use for MX and PTR.

Good day,

Is it because of binding policy i created is wrong?

Now i create a third party email server to send email via the wingate. The problem still the same. My public IP with PTR setup should be xx.xx.xx.122 but when i check the source , it send out fr xx.xx.xx.121

I am using ADSL Line with Fix IP. My modem is ZTE ZXDSL 831.

Pls advise
