An odd problem?

Postby KeepGood » Dec 03 06 12:17 am

Hi,

I downloaded Wingate the other day (currently under the trial license) while on the hunt for a good piece of software to take advantage of my two internet connections. I am using it with 2x 10mb cable modems.

I only have one problems that I cant find a solution to. When I try to map an incoming port it fails. When setting up a torrent client I have to map an incoming TCP and UDP port so the client has a return path from the tracker which I have done, the TCP map works randomly and the UDP map hasnt worked yet. The reason I setup Wingate with the two modems was to boost my upload/download speed more than anything.

I do have a theory on why this is happening. When downloading a torrent earlier today I found that my client was being rejected as the IP used to download the torrent file was different. I take it this is luck that the connection used when my client started communicating with the tracker was not the same connection that was used to download the torrent file itself.

I cant think of a way around this as yet, does anyone have any idea how to get around this as I only use passkey torrents (the tracker keeps note of your IP for stats)?

Well, using two connections to extend your bandwidth is not going to work. What you can do, though, is to have a gateway selection mechanism used to rotate gateways.

Thanks for your reply, your time is appreciated.

I understand that two 10mb modems doesnt give me a 20mb connection, but instead, two available 10mb connections. I have noticed my upload (using torrents) has doubled so I know only in certain instantances will will having the two connections be beneficial.

Could you explain a little about rotating gateways, or point me in the right direction for documentation about it?

Thanks
