I installed wingate 5.0.10 (build848) with a US Robotics 56PCI (int.) modem for dial-up connection. The clients can make internet connections, but the speed is slow. If I change the modem, I installed a PCTel Platinum V.90 (int) modem, we see an improvement. Also time-outs disappear at the clients. Are there any known issues with US Robotics modems?
Is there a prefer list of modems for Wingate?

We don't have any known issues with US Robotics modems. In general we haven't found any modems to be better or worse than any others.
You may find that depending on the install software that sets up the modems and the dialup connections you could possibly improve performance.
In the late 90's there were quite a few free applications that were popular on the net to fine tune modem connections, these are still around.
