wingate does not work any more

Postby Alexander Godts » Dec 13 03 12:56 pm

I have been using wingate 4.4.2, [QBIK- NEIL - Removed licence details] for abt. two years under NT 4.0SP6a without any serious problem. This Wingate was bought from Deerfield on 11/30/01. (invoice # 371128). It has also worked normally under W2000 for abt. 4 months now.
I am only using the proxy servers functionality (lots of self-made TCP-mapping).

A few days days ago, the internet software cannot find the proxy servers any more, Gatekeeper does no longer ask for a password, but opens with only one pane (activity/history), the pane with the proxy servers has disappeared and I am not able to get it back. Backing up my system did not help, so maybe there is a "time bomb" in the Wingate software, or, perhaps, a virus - but my "Viruscan" from McAfee did not find anything.

There is worse: I have a multiboot computer, with several instances of W2000. I checked one instance that had not been used for weeks and which also has wingate on it: the same problem!

Do you know what could have caused this and how I can get my proxy servers back?

Thank you,

Alexander,

Try this:

Stop WinGate Engine
Delete History.dbf and History.cdx files from the WinGate directory
Start WinGate Engine

Hello Larry,

I've found (by mere luck) what happened: When I installed Wingate under Win2000, a few months ago, I somehow mistyped something in the installer, and it presumed I had just installed the eval version.
That's why, after 3 months, it shut me off!!!
Tonight, I just re-entered my license name+ key string and I immediately got it all back, finctioning perfectly!
Thank you for helping anyway, I am sure I shall need it sometimes! (so stupid some software problems - and their users - can be...)
regards

Alex
