Hi,
I have the DIALER service enabled so every time the Internet service disconnects for some reason it is re-established automatically. I am needing to disconnect from the Internet service automatically from 4AM to 5AM everyday. Is this possible in Wingate?

Hi Jorge,
Yes I should think so.
What I would do is to open the dialer properties and apply a policy to restrict access to the users' at the time and day you need.
Maybe the 'Everyone' recipient could work?
Hope this helps.

It's not about restricting access but about dropping the internet connection for some time in order to get a new IP address from my provider. I use DNS2GO to host my domain and I also have Visnetic Mail Server and sometimes I have problems sending email with the IP I was assigned becasue it is reported as a SPAM address.

Hi Jorge,
If you have a disconnect after 'xx seconds of activity' in the dialer properties, that should allow the refresh perhaps?

You can combine the two suggestions.
1. Create a policy that will prevent dialer access during the time you want the system to be offline. (4AM to 5AM) This will prevent new requests from initiating the dialer.
2. Use the Scheduler to create a Daily run (At a given time) event to Hangup the dialer profile at 4AM. You can then create a second event to re-connect the dialer at 5AM.

What if I stop the Wingate service using the Windows Scheduler? I do not need that service at 4AM. I can use the NET STOP and NET START commands in a batch file that runs at the specified time. What is the name of the service? Is this a good idea?

You could. It seems a little extreme though, bringing the whole system down when all you want is to restrict access to the dialer. The service name is "WinGateEngine". (That's used to control it in API calls to Service Control Manager)
