I would recommend upgrading to Wingate v6 - v5 had certain problems that could cause OS crash.

Did it start crashing after you installed SP4?

no genie

I installed everything before wingate ( I also have pcanywhere 10.x installed)

The system was up and running. Then I installed wingate , defined and assigned users and wingate started to service fine.
This has happened several times that after a while windows slows down intesely at startup, and then we have Qbikhk2k service failed. The service is virtually up but it's actually down.

Aye - can be a damaged install file or version mismatch between the driver and the engine.

has the system had a power loss or forced reset recently? This can corrupt files on your disk.

We've seen a lot more instances of this lately. I'm personally wondering whether some recent MS update makes the OS more susceptible to file corruption on power loss, because I don't ever remember seeing so many corrupt files before when a computer gets reset or loses power.

hi there

isn't it odd that each time a powaer loss happens, just the wingate driver is affected?

We saw this problem long time ago with v5 drivers only and only in a limited number of cases - that is why I recommend upgrade to v6 - new driver there is far more stable (v5 was more complicated and as such more fragile).

Server hang after install wingate 5.06

Postby missg » May 03 07 3:22 am

Hi all,
Recently I was installed wingate 5.06 on my win2k adv server SP4. After installation completed, it ask to restart the computer then i just click ok button. when restart everything is ok (POST), but when entering windows logo i have a BSOD and an error message come up. It says that there is some problem with qbikhk2k.sys, it wants to write to read-only memory. I was trying to start server using advance options (safe mode etc) but the result is same.
my question is how can i boot the server? even in safe mode? i don't want to reinstall the server. is there any trick to boot safely? i have 2 nic's.
I am sorry about my question, i am normally administering *nix servers.

If 2k is loaded on FAT, I would try using a win98 boot disk and rename the System32\Drivers\qbikhk2k.sys file

There are some more suggestions for troubleshooting startup problems in Windows 2000 at this link: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/315396

The latest verison of WinGate is 6.2.1; 5.0.6 was released four years ago.
