Wingate, two modems, bittorent + network.. lol help :)

Postby Ballbearing » Feb 14 07 6:31 am

okay, i have wingate running on a xp pro sp2 machine.. that is the proxy... then i have bittorrent running on another machine on the local network.. what i would like to do is have the bittorrent machine be able to use both modems at once across the network..

i have tried port forwarding, setting up rules.. but i just need to be told what to do, as i can't get it to work, bittorent isn't picking up the nat forwarding either..

what am i doing wrong, i have wingate installed as a client on the bittorrent machine..

thankyou in advance :)

reading the forums, it seems that i can only do multiple modems together on the local machine, and not across the network..

Hi,

The WinGate Internet Client (WGIC) will forward all connections to the WinGate server, so it can't be used to take advantage of a different modem on the network.

What you could do is set the WGIC to ignore the BitTorrent and send all BitTorrent connections out the network modem and then send all other connections out through WinGate, this should speed things up a bit.

the proxy with wingate server has the two modems installed on it, is it not possible to make the lan card in the server act as a gateway to the proxy, so if i point my bitorrent client to that lan NIC IP it will see one IP, but behind that ip wingate is feeding from two WAN IP's. could wingate not somehow handle the traffic from the two wan ports and merge them into one lan port for azureus to work from?

Hi,

I have been meaning to try this myself but I never got around to it. Initially I was trying to fool the trackers into thinking that my one computer was actually two computers. But it became apparent how over complicated this was going to be when I realised most torrent clients can use a socks proxy for the tracker and peer-to-peer communications.

If the socks proxy is set to connect through WinGates socks proxy server, then you can use the gateway section of the socks proxy to control gateway rotation.

You can define what gateways you want to use for the rotation from the following location.

Gatekeeper -> Services tab -> Socks Proxy server -> Gateways,
Select "Use all specified connections in rotation",
Then add the gateways you want to use for this rotation.

Hi, That makes quite alot of difference. There have been ALOT of extra features and bug fixes since version 5. I highly suggest getting version 6.2.1.

You can download it from the wingate website.

You will be able to use your current license in the latest version without updating your license, but you will be restricted to the features available when you purchased your license. If you want to access the new features added since you purchased your license, you will need to update your license.

i dont like updating, i think the phrase is, if it aint broke, dont fix it.. but now, it is broke, so i guess update :)

so logan are you saying that both modems should be used at the same time if this works?

Gateway rotation will send every alternative session out the other gateway. This should work a dream with bittorrent because sometimes, anywhere between 80 to 100+ sessions can be active at any one time.

When it comes down to simple single session based communication, as with any solution, gateway rotation will supply little advantage to the connection speed, apart from allowing 2 full speed sessions at one time.

yeah thats what i would have thought would happen, but it doesn't seem to, it maxes out one modem and the other lies unused.. it is odd...

both modems are in the rotation setting for the socks proxy..

If you would like me to, I can take a look at your WinGate configuration for you. Did you upgrade to the latest version and it still doesn't work?

You can send the following information to logan at qbik dot com

1. WinGate Registry.
GateKeeper --> Options menu --> Advanced --> Save Registry

2. WinGate Config Report
GateKeeper --> Options menu --> Advanced --> Save Config Report

3. ipconfig/all from one LAN Client, and the WinGate Server
(Windows) Start menu --> Run --> cmd --> ipconfig/all >> C:\ipa.txt

I think this is very close to what I would love to accomplish..I am learning. ..here is my scenario. I have 2 cable modems and have installed a second NIC card into my dual core machine. I would love to be able to use utorrent and allow the machine to acess both cable modems...No other machine will use these 2 cable modems. Where can I find a FAQ or some documemtation to help me set this up..I am into learning and would like to read and understand what I am doing and why. Can someone steer me where I can find some info? Thank You all.P.S I have bpought the latest version of WinGate 6.2
