time out on email client

Jul 28 07 11:39 pm

hello, I run Wingate as server on 1 pc and wingate client on two desktops and on two laptops; on the server-pc I run browsers IE6.x and Firefox and Thunderbird for email, results are OK; the wingateclients do run browser IE6.x and Firefox with good result, but both email programs Outlook and Thunderbird cannot connect at all. I do not understand why the browserprograms run OK on the client-pc's and no emailprogram gets connection ? Can you help?
Settings: wingate server internal-lan-connector 192.168.0.10, has connection to the internet IP address 80.60.166.164 masks 255.255.255.255; the clientpc gives a webpage for a browser(that's OK) but a message "Connection to server pop3.planet.nl timed out" or when I connect the emailprogram to my own website-emailserver is gives the message "Connection to server www.informade.nl timed out"
The clientpc's use DNS 195.121.1.34 and 195.121.1.66 (from provider Planet.nl) and 192.168.0.10 (my serving pc , or would this be wrong)
(Ever since this problem occured I changed so many times the parameters, that I don't know anymore the good one's) thanks in advance, Ruud van der Made

1. "The clientpc's use DNS 195.121.1.34 and 195.121.1.66 (from provider Planet.nl)"
--> Thank you. When I test those servers I cannot get it to resolve addresses, but it may be because I am not an ISP client. FYI: This is how I tested:

(Windows) Start menu --> run --> nslookup
server 195.121.1.34
pop3.planet.nl
---> Timeout

server 195.121.1.66
pop3.planet.nl
---> Timeout

2. So if you cannot resolve them as well, then enter the following ip address for the POP3 Server of your email client and test: 195.121.6.53

3. If you are not using WinGate's POP3 and SMTP Servers then please disable them for the sake of testing and try again.

test on 195.121.1.34

Microsoft Windows XP [versie 5.1.2600]
(C) Copyright 1985-2001 Microsoft Corp.

C:\Documents and Settings\R.A. van der Made>nslookup 195.121.1.34
Server: ns1.wxs.nl
Address: 195.121.1.34

Name: ns1.wxs.nl
Address: 195.121.1.34

C:\Documents and Settings\R.A. van der Made>
this result came from the test from my pc (= wingate server pc)

on the wingate-client I got also a time out on 195.12.1.34 and on 195.121.6.53 as well

Meantime I will investigate this network settings more. I do wonder why the browsers do work and email client doesnot work as this nslookup doesnot work either
we'll keep in touch I hope, regards, Ruud

Still try with that IP Address for the POP3 Server - I just notice nslookup will not work with the WGIC.

u have the problem with pop3 so i...
I have topic in this forum... please see...

enter in extended networking->Port securiti and choose lan connections to internet...
there are 2 strings. 2 redirections.
click on add button and open 110 port. there will be 1 redirection and 1 allowed port (with blue color). dont click ok and try send/receive on lan computers.

if it works click ok and try send/receive again... on my lan comps after clicking ok the problem appears again. my changed settings aren't saved by wingate :(
it means: if i want to have opened 110 port i will leave extended network window opened... .cry.
