"Page loading Errors, URL not Found"

Postby Mgone » Sep 25 07 10:00 pm

I am currently using 6.2 build 1137 and I have gone through this forum reading as much as I can on problems related to php errors (pages failing to load, socket errors 404- page errors etc . . .) I know there must be a simple answer to my issue but that answer still eludes me. Perhaps Wingate is not the soulution for me.

No mattter how I configure, carefully taking into consideration all that I have read (trying to make sense of it all,) I still fail to open half the sites I visit. There is a connection I see with php scripts or rather sites with some variation of php and "?" in their urls'. Though there are some sites that I can blast through without any problems; like Qbik's for one. For the most part, i just get "page not found", "socket xxx error", "Requested page unavailable". Sometimes refreshing loads the page and other times I am redirected to yet another page of which doesn't reside in my current cache.

None of it really makes too much sense to me, but i'd like to know if there is a fix for this. Perhaps a checklist of requirements that I might step through or something that I am missing in all these discussions?

Thanks for any advice that you can offer.

Hi,

Yes try this one as a good starting point http://forums.qbik.com/viewtopic.php?t=2834

Let the forum know how it goes as this is not normal for Wingate!

Yeah, seems no matter what I try I still get the page load errors.

The bindings all appear to be correct, that is to say I have connectivity. I have tried to turn off caching, but that has no effect. I'm really using Wingate to act as a simple proxy for a few home systems. They are in a domain but not running IIS, ftp or any other typical server services.

One thing I do notice is that more often than not, the errors are presented in a page which has a Google Banner. Not sure why this is, could it be because I have Google as my home page perhaps?

The errors are more or less related to any URL with any .php scripts in them though, sometimes a simple .htm or .html generqates an error. Oddly however again is this, I can blast through this entire site as well as the Qbik home page with generating a single error . . . very strange

Really at a loss for this one . . .

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated

Thanks

Hi,

When you browse from the gateway server directly the pages load without error yes?

Have you any policies configured?

The WWW proxy shows for Policy that the system rights are ignored and everyone has full rights?

Can you list a troublesome URL so others' can try the fault too?

Any plugins / PureSight installed?

Report back to the forum how it goes!

It seems to fail on either the Gateway side or from the inside LAN at the same pages. I have no plugins installed and the current policy is set as everyone has full rights. As a speciffic URLs, try

abmgroup.com/business_focus.php

I first noticed the problem here or,

driversguide.com

Just trying to navigate any of the links in the top bar caused errors. Now tonight, I noticed there are problems with sites with jsp extensions while poking around the Sun site.

java.sun.com/javase/downloads/index.jsp

Hi,

Tried all those sites and are ok here in Australia via a Wireless Nationwide telco either by proxy / NAT and direct.

These type of faults are usually to do with the ISP or remote server.

Maybe you have a DNS error, can you change to a different server for DNS?

Unfortunately for me, that I am aware of, I have only two DNS server from which to choose. Curious that the problems I have only occur while using Wingate . . . There is nothing wrong with wingate, so it must lie in the configuration somewhere . . . I am stumped!

Hi,

This is probably off track but in the Network tab / adaptor usage are the NICS correctly identified as Internal / External?

One other question, is the Firewall configured for High [Denies all un solicited connections] or a lower setting?

We'll get this one working I'm sure. :-)

Problem resolved . . .

I guess the one thing I didn't mention was the fact that I had been running Wingate on XP. I'm not much of an XP fan so, I built a 2000 server last night and reinstalled there . . .

The problems went away entirely . . . even with the identical configuration. I'm not done with XP, for if there is a undocumented problem with Wingate on XP than, it would be nice to conquer that issue as it might be of help to others. The system by-the-way was an un tainted out of the box XP SP2 installation with only the current hotfixes applied. Of course, that does not say too much, other than there were no other applications installed on the system, with the exception of .Net Framework 2.0.

Speaking of help . . . I cannot thank you enough for taking the time to adress my issue so expeditiously and with a tone of real interest.

I'll keep everyone posted on my progress with XP maybe it's something . . . operhaps it was just me.

Is this computer a Dell computer by any chance with a Dell Windows installation CD?

I did happen to read and apply that patch, unfortunately, it made no difference.

Loga: It's funny that you should ask "Is it a Dell?" As a matter of fact, it is a Dell. An Optiplex Gx1. I have so many laying around the shop and like to use them for testing. I have run both XP and 2000 on them quite successfully. It is however, not a Dell CD install.

I grabbed another one and installed 2000 Server on it and the problem went away immediately. Odd . . .

I am going to continue playing with the XP to see if I can resolve whatever is plaguing it. Maybe nothing, maybe something?

Is anyone else using build 1137?
