can WIngate allow me to do this?

Postby misterfreeze » Oct 05 07 9:56 pm

Here's my situation:
-Im behind corporate firewall that only have port 80 open.
-I would like to play games behind that firewall.
-most of those games use TCP and UDP protocols with other ports than 80.
-I use proxycap to socksify the game, allowing to tunnel through port 80 the tcp and udp communication to my home pc.

question: would Wingate be able to act as a socks v5 server (that support udp protocol) at my home pc? if so , how can i configure it to fit my situation?
Thanks for your answer.

Yes, it will be able to run a Socks v5 server for you.

When it comes to WinGate, that's a really open and general question, but I will try my best to give you the correct instructions.

First you will need to install WinGate on a computer in your home network and set it up. You can download an installation guide from our website that will walk you through this.
http://downloads.qbik.com/qbiknz2/downl ... nstall.chm

Once WinGate is setup, you need to move the Socks Proxy Service to port 80. There is a WWW Proxy Service located on port 80 by default in WinGate so you will need to change that to another port first

- Gatekeeper -> Services tab -> WWW Proxy Server -> General
- Change the Service Port from 80 to 8080.
- Click OK to make the change

- Gatekeeper -> Services tab -> SOCKS Proxy Server -> General
- Change the Service Port from 1080 to 80.
- Click OK to make the change

The service is now listening on port 80. Since this service will be open to the internet, you will want to make some restrictive policies to prevent every tom, dick and harry from accessing your SOCKS Proxy. If your works public IP address is static, the easiest way to do this would be with an IP Address filter.

- Gatekeeper -> Services tab -> SOCKS Proxy Server -> Policies
- Change the default rights to "are ignored" to stop the service from using the System Policies
- Click Add to make a new policy
- Goto the Locations tab
- Select "Specify locations from where this recipient has rights"
- Add your works IP address to the Included list
- Also add your local subnet to allow local computers to use this resource if required. You can use a wildcard to do this (e.g. 192.168.1.*)
- Click OK to make the change

You can now open your Socks Proxy up to the internet. The SOCKS proxy will be currently bound the any internal IP address and the loopback address(127.0.0.1). You need to bind this to your external network adaptor facing the internet.

- Gatekeeper -> Services tab -> SOCKS Proxy Server -> Bindings
- Click Add
- Either select "Any External adaptor" or specify the adaptor that you want to bind.
- Click OK to make the change.

That's pretty much all the configuration requirements taken care of in WinGate. Not to hard huh :). Now just make sure port 80 is being forwarded from your internet router to the WinGate computer and you're ready to try connecting through your own public IP address at home.
