authenticate users always and setup content filtering

Postby oig01 » Oct 19 07 2:00 pm

The proxy service is enabled in Wingate and I created a test account (under users tab) and added user to proxy service recipients and set proxy service policy to "user must be authenticated" and set default rights(system policies) to "are ignored" but when the test user opens IE it comes up access denied. If I change properties to "user may be unknown" then the authentication windows pops up in IE, and access is granted but when I close IE and reopen the authentication windows does not appear again and the internet is enabled. What I want is for the user to be authenticated and if they close IE then they should get re prompted for authentication.

Hi

How is the client machine configured? Is it running the WinGate client as well?

with yoru policy, since it is user-specific, then WinGate needs to figure out if the user matches the one in the policy (your test account). There are only 2 ways to do this,

1. by assumption (i.e. you tell Wingate that x.x.x.x is a certain user)
2. by authentication

So this is why you get a username/password box come up, because only specified users (i.e. not Guest) are allowed.

Do you also have enabled on the General tab of the proxy the NTLM option?

i don't have the Wingate client installed. I configure through IE.

under IE internet options -->connections--->lan settings, i enabled use proxy, put in the wingate server ip and port 80 then I hide the connections tab in the machine policy.

Where do I find NTLM. I don't see the setting in my version of Wingate (v6.2.2)

Isnt NTLM for Windows database AD, but I am using the Wingate uid/pass.

You need

1. A pro or enterprise (or trial) licence
2. to be using the windows user database (or Active directory).

in order to use NTLM.
