Best practices for 250+ users

Postby westsyde » Oct 29 07 9:39 am

Hello, I am looking at Wingate to be the proxy for a 400 user environment and am wondering where to find information on what hardware requirements would be necessary - would there need to be two servers?

400 concurrent users is quite alot of users, but you should be able to do this through one WinGate server easily if the specifications of that server are high enough. We do have a few customers that have successfully connected 500 users through their WinGate server.

The amount of concurrent users that WinGate can handle is very dependant on the specifications of the computer that it is installed on. I wouldn't be looking at much less than top of the line proccessors and 2 or 3 gigs of memory. A dual CPU configuration would significantly help relieve the amount of strain on the computer aswell.

I really haven't had any experience with such large networks before, so don't this is only my estimate of what sort of hardware you would need.

Does anybody else on the forum have an opinion about what hardware you would need to run 400 users?
