Virus scanner on WinGate PC

Postby kh01 » Nov 09 07 7:17 pm

I am looking at purchasing WinGate as the proxy for a small network I am setting up.

Is it OK to use a commercial virus scanner such as McAfee or Trend Micro PC-cillin on the WinGate PC? My aim is simply to protect this PC rather than perform virus checking of the entire proxy server traffic, as each individual WinGate client would be running local virus protection.

Thanks in advance.

Wingate uses Kasperski Antivirus for the viral checks - this support is organized as a Wingate plugin.

Virus scanner on WinGate PC

Thanks Genie. Sorry - I'm new at this...

Does Kasperski Antivirus protect the WinGate server itself, or the downstream clients?

What about other virus scanning software - is this interfere with WinGate when installed on the same PC?

Kasperski plugin scans all data coming through Wnigate (HTTP, FTP, mail protocols are checked). Also, local system can be checked using the plugin.

As of other AV software - yes, there might be problems installing multiple hooking drivers. The best course of action for you would be to install Wingate using its trial version, install all software you plan to have installed on this machine and see how they co-exist. In many cases, though, Wingate does not bring any problems whatsoever.
