taskmgr on WinGate Server not reporting traffic accurately

Postby Randy Baker » Nov 15 07 2:24 pm

I am in the process of downloading 6 ISO's, with the majority over 600Mb in size.

I am wanting to see what type of performance hit the WinGate server is taking. It looks like my WinGate server is not even breaking a sweat, if taskmgr can be trusted.

I am seeing 0% network utilization on the LAN side (1Gbps NIC), and an average of .01% utilization on the WAN side (100Mbps NIC). I know I have nearly choked my 8 Mbps download capacity from my ISP as web connections to the Internet have slowed considerably.

Is there any reason as to why taskmgr is not accurately reporting Network performance statistics on the WinGate server?

Depending on how taskmanager sees traffic, it's possible that NAT connections don't show up as traffic.

For instance SNMP doesn't see NAT traffic statistics for WinGate, because these stats appear to be updated by the TCP/IP protocol driver, and in WinGate NAT, NAT traffic is handled below this in the network stack.
