xbox 360 mtu issue with wingate server

Postby mike8301 » Dec 12 07 5:09 am

I have an xbox360 behind a router (Linksys BEFSR81)and a computer thats running wingate 6.2.2 thats connecting to the internet, every comp that is connected to the router can get on the internet, but each 360 thats hooked up can't get past the mtu for xbox live. xbox live requires at least 1386 i believe. The setting is at 1500 with 0% packet loss. its not the router because whenever the 360 is hooked up to the same router and plugged into a cable modem the 360 connects fine. The connection I am setting up is a laptop connecting using a sprint aircard, sharing it to the router and having each computer connect to that laptop. In the past it has worked, but now its not, and i've redone the laptop, installed the latest wingate, net drivers and double checked the mtu on every adapter which is at 1500. I am running Xp pro sp2 on the laptop any ideas???

so when the XBOx doesn't go through winGate it's fine but when it does it doesn't work?

Have you checked the MTU override settings in WinGate/GateKeeper?

Also are you able to test with Ping to see what the actual MTU you are getting is? You need to make sure you use the -f command line option with ping.

e.g if you have an MTU of 1500, you should be able to get a successful response to

ping somewhereexternal -l 1472 -f

the problem was that the gateway was left as the router instead of putting it to the wingate server. thanks
