Gatekeeper Problem

Postby kdkerns » Dec 29 07 5:14 pm

I am evaluating with a trial version. Ever since pressing the "Go Offline" button, the Gatekeeper has been blank. I tried shutting the Wingate engine down and starting it backup, logging in and out of Gatekeeper, and as a final resort uninstalled Wingate and reinstalled. Still no information is being displayed in Gatekeeper like when I first installed it.

It looked like a nice product up until then, but I am skeptical of software that can send users into a mess with one press of a button.

Please help so I can finish my eval!

thanks.

Ok, I uninstalled and reinstalled again and it the Gatekeeper started working again. I downloaded the PureSight trial and that seemed to be a really nice feature. Then I proceeded to download the Kaspersky AV and noticed by transfer rates were quite low at 30-40 k/sec. After installing Kaspersky I noticed the Gatekeeper was acting up again. So I uninstalled everything again and then went and downloaded Kapersky AV plugin again and noticed my transfer rates were back up to 140 k/sec. So I have two issues discouraging spending over 200 USD on this product:

1.) Behavior of Gatekeeper
2.) PureSight's impact on internet performance.

I mostly wanted a content filter for my daughter, so I will probably just purchase something that will install on her computer only. I will lock down the other machines I have with passwords. I'll have to purchase Virus SW for the Windows computers.

I would purchase Wingate immediately if these issues were addressed.

Hi,

Yes Wingate is well built and robust software!

To run the plugins could take some more system horsepower, what are the 'specs' of the Wingate system and does it have a busy tasklist?

To free the processing burden you can disable all the unnecessary logging in Wingate's services and features, I have found this usually does the trick, also it may help to disable Cache Lookups and Additions.

With the 'Go Offline' button, does it change by hitting the 'Go Online' button or remain the same?

I can't get Gatekeeper to work at all now. Uninstall, delete install folder, reboot, reinstall, reboot --- and then bring up Gatekeeper. Nothing is viewable in the window panes....just grey matter.

The wingate engine is running all the while. Shutdown and restarts of the engine make no difference.

Hi,

Does Gatekeeper look like this?

Image

Does it report as being 'Connected' or not in the title bar?

If it's not connected then there is most likely a policy denying access to the Remote Control Service, or it may not be bound to any network interface, this can happen when configuring Wingate. There is answers in this forum for gaining access again.

Or, try this Wingate automatic backup.

Stop the Wingate engine, locate the Wingate directory and in directory 'Backup' will be a 'Default Install.reg' file, if you click this file and import it, does Gatekeeper change then?

Drop back to the forum to let us know how it goes.
