Wingate stop functioning due to traffics

Postby leesoo » Jan 23 08 8:34 pm

Hi,

Need help on how to prevent below from happening.

- Setup wingate on pc that configured as internet sharing connection
- All the wingate clients connect thru this pc to surf net
- Let say this pc's ip, 1.2.3.4, recently this ip appeared o the activity column and tried to access internet (this ip appeared under guest account which do not have access to net. Look like someone use pc with ip 1.2.3.4 to access net)
- It will keep trying (auto) and sent lot of traffics. As such, wingate hang and all the connection lost. Clients totally cant connect.
- As a result, restart the whole pc becuase wingate cant login even typed the correct od and password.
- today happened twice..

Anyone have any idea on how to stop it?

Hi,

From your description it sounds like you're getting a DNS loop. Can you see what kind of traffic this is?

Are you running Active Directory?

If no:
Please check your DNS settings on the WinGate server, ensure that the INTERNAL network adapter (the one facing the LAN) does not have a DNS server or default gateway set. Make sure that your EXTERNAL network adapter has the IP address of the ISP's DNS server and the default gateway is set to the Internet router.

If yes:
Make sure that your INTERNAL adapter has no default gateway set and the DNS address is set to your AD DC. Your EXTERNAL adapter should have the ISP's DNS server set and the default gateway should point to the Internet router. In the WinGate Advanced Options applet enter the IP address of the AD DNS server in the list of DNS servers. This will tell WinGate not to check this DNS server for DNS resolution requests.

In your AD DNS server you should specify the WinGate server as a forward zone.

Does this help?

Regards,

Matt

Hi,

We're not running active. For LAN adapter, previously set default gateway and now, removed it. While for external adapter, ISP's DNS IP and gateway has been set there...

Sa far so good and still monitoring. Thanks for the info.
