Port 443 and DOS

Postby StJohns » Jan 25 08 12:11 pm

I have a program that needs to communicate to the internet through port 443 (https/SSL) and GK (5.0.7) is blocking it even though I have configured a new TCP service for that port. Does anybody know if there is an easy way to tell if I have configured the service correctly? The program works fine if I bypass GK.

Hi

Normally there is no configuration required to get HTTPS / SSL connections working through WinGate, if you either

a) are using WinGate as the default gateway for the client machines, and have them configured to connect directly (NAT); or

b) have configured your client machines to use a proxy under internet connection settings.

Unless the client app will only ever connect to one server, I wouldn't recommend using a TCP mapping proxy on port 443 for this.

This client app - does it use the system settings for connections? I.e. if you change the connection settings for Internet Explorer on that machine does it affect the client application?

Regards

It (DirectLink, banking program from National Bank) is not use the system settings. They (their tech support) says that as long as you can browse the internet, their program should "follow" that connection to their SSL connection.

Update, 29/01/08, after trying a few things, like enabling Extended Networking and configuring the port in there, I have it working. Thank you for your help.
