Important Question about Caching

Postby stlony » Mar 15 08 10:14 pm

hello wingate team,

I just has a small problem with caching. it is the most happening problem with users "not the updated page open" this problem happen with me with yahoo page it give me a small yahoo page not the main home page.
I know that i can put rule "not to cach contain yahoo" but there maybe another web pages that i don't know do this also i don't want to put every one like this it will be hard. I found another way is to set "Rechecking Other Files" to zero.
THE QUESTION IS IF I SET THIS OPTION TO ZERO AND "Number of days before rechecking HTML files" ALSO TO ZERO IS THE CACHING OPTION BECOME USELESS THIS WAY? or it is still do it's job?
and how can i test that caching is working good?

So are you trying to disable caching in WinGate? what if you purge the cache now, does that fix the issue? How long until you see issues arise? The easiest way to disable the cache is to un-check the "Enable cache lookups option."

From the help file

-Enable cache lookups

Check this if you want to be able to get cached files from the local cache. If this is not selected, every document requested will be down loaded from the Internet. The only reason to turn this off may be if you are having problems with a document that you think may have been updated.

-Number of days before rechecking HTML files

This setting means that if a file has been requested from the cache in the last number of days " " (that is set in this option), then do not check with the Internet server to see if it is still current.
