Please help setting up default gateway

Postby netmastan » Sep 17 08 11:30 am

Hi Guys,

We are setting up a local network to test. We are using windows 2008 server and Windows vista.
Here is our scenario

PC1= AD,DC,DHCP,DNS, IP=10.2.8.92, Domain Matrix.com
PC2=SDC,DNS, IP=10.2.8.93 (Sales.matrix.com)
PC3=Vista Workstation , obtain IP address automatically, part of Matrix.com domain
PC4=IIS,ISA(Replacing with Wingate), IP=10.2.8.91, DNS server 10.2.8.92),part of Matrix.com domain
PC5= Vista work station, Obtain IP addres automatically.part of Matrix.com domain

We want all our PCs to go internet. PC4 will have two NIC. Private NIC ip is 10.2.8.91 and Public we don't know yet and it will go inter.

Could you please tell me whether I need to change default gateway in every PC to 10.2.8.91 or I can just install on PC1 as it is the DHCP provider and Primary Domain controller.
Can i do globally,assume I got 100 of pcs ? What will be default gatway or subnet mask of PC4

Hi

If your client machines are using DHCP, then you can change the default gateway that your DHCP server assigns to these clients, which means you don't need to go round all the computers to change that.

Regards

Adrien

P.S WinGate 6 doesn't support Vista or 2k8 - the driver isn't compatible.

So I assumed I need to do this

1) Assign default gateway in the PC1 which has DNS,DHCP,AC,DC runing so it can distribute to all its clients
2) Assign default gaeteway to those machines who has static ip address also

It's really stressfull. ISA 2004 or ISA 2006 doesn't work on Windows 2008 server, now you are telling me Wingate won't work on Windows 2008 server either.
Any recommendation.... ? Our teacher left us like this without giving as any help.. and we got 1 week to get this network up and running.

what are you planning to use WinGate for in all of this?

Windows Server 2008 has a DHCP server in it. Also it can do NAT.
