Any 3rd party plugin for web mail recording?

Sep 23 08 5:00 am

Dear forumer,

I am a user of wingate for the past 3 years. Would like to know if there is any 3rd party plug in to record the web mail content.

It has been an issue for us to track misuse of resources in the organization or even data stealing .

hope fellow forumer can assist.

thank you

No such 3rd party plugin exists as far as I am aware.

If your clients are connecting to their webmail sites using plain unencrypted HTTP, you may be able to use a packet sniffer to record the port 80 traffic, letting you see the raw data being sent between the client and the mail server. However I'm certain most webmail sites would employ SSL encryption to prevent such man-in-the-middle attacks, in which case packet captures will only show meaningless garbage and nothing useful.

Dear Logan,

Thank you so much for your information.

In fact, I was searching for so long..

Don't you think Wingate should come out with a special plugin for only employer to serve the desired purpose when needed .

Any of other forumer having the same issue ?

I know it is a bit sensitive on this topic.. but what to do ?

I know it's not a popular move, but if a company is concerned about inappropriate use of external email systems, the typical response is to block them, and force internal users to use internal mail systems only.

Thanks for your response.

By the way, Can the netpatrol play the role in detecting any unauthorised sniffer or intruder on within wingate operating LAN ?

hope to hear from you
