Email Server On Wingate Server

Postby rboynton » Feb 22 09 4:57 pm

I currently am using an SMTP server on the same box as my WG server. This has worked fine, but I need the ability to run port 25 & 110 through the proxy so that each transaction is logged. I want to be able to analyze the logs and see the impact my email server is having on our total bandwidth usage. I have port 25 and 110 open, but that apparently does not allow WG to see the transactions and thus no logging occurs.

What do I need to change to allow this to happen?

well, the problem is that you can't have two applications running on the same port, so if both your mail server and WinGate are trying to claim ports 25 and 110, only one of them is going to get the ports.

If you want to redirect mail traffic through the WinGate proxies, might I suggest adding another IP address to the WinGate server for the mail server to bind to, and prevent WinGate from binding to the new IP. This will give the computer two IP's on the local network. One for WinGate, and one for the mail server. Then, from the mail server, using the proxy is simply a matter of connecting through the computers other local IP where the WinGate mail services are listening.
