wingate seemingly stopping access to some URLs

Postby ihutcherson » Mar 18 09 11:10 pm

We have Wingate 6.2.2 loaded (only just discovered the 6.5 upgrade today and will need testing prior to deployment), running on Windos XP out to the internet.

One of our users has complained that when accessing URL's contained with a e-mail from an online resource (which has been proven to be safe to do (for this particular resource)), that they are getting 404 errors in the page.

The URL's in the e-mail appear similiar to www_drapersonline_com/5001255.article (new user so can't post a URL directly) - if i test this, then it doesn't work, if i then change my settings to bypass our Wingate installation, then everything works fine.

I have contacted the website admin, but get a standard "no-one else has reported a problem" type response.

Anyone know what may be happening as I need to get this fixed ASAP (much sooner then I can test v6.5 and deploy).

Thanks

I think an important thing to know here is how your clients are configured to connect to the Internet. I.e. are they using plain NAT, or are you setting the WWW Proxy in their browsers.

All our clients have proxy server settings listed within the browser.

Thanks.

Hi

So this is an email with a URL embedded in it that's breaking?

Or is it an email-based URL (e.g. mailto:someone@somewhere) in a web-page?

If the former, what email client are you using, and do you require authentication at the proxy? If the latter, the URL shouldn't be going to the proxy, the browser should be launching your mail client to send a mail to that address.

It's a URL link within an e-mail that is failing.

Though if i view the source and copy/paste directly into a browser - that also fails to open.

The proxy is using authentication against the windows credentials and opens fine on other sites and other e-mailed links. Just not this one site.

if other links work, it must be something to do with that site.

If you'd like to avoid posting the link on here, just submit a support ticket at http://support.qbik.com

Adrien,

One of the links is www.drapersonline.com/5001259.article (and anything else on that site in a similiar format).

Thanks

Ian
