Download quotas

Postby ngrayson » May 25 09 7:35 am

Hi guys,

I'm sure that I have reads soemthing about this in the past but a trawl through the forum yields nothing.

Is it possibel in policies or somewhere to actually set a daily download limit on an account? The accounting is there but I cant find anything which uses it?

Cheers

Here is one way of setting up Quotas:

First you need to create an event in the WinGate Scheduler to Roll
Over the users accounting daily (or whenever you want to reset the
quota); you need to choose a time when the WinGate server is on. Then
Add in the Action "Reset All User Accounts"

Next you need to plan where to put the Traffic Quota policy. The
System Policies (Default Rights) is probably a good place for it
because you can configure each WinGate Server / Service to check there
before granting a user access. So if we want the "Everyone" group to
only have 1 Gig per day.

System Policies --> Add --> Everyone group

Everyone Group Advanced tab --> Add Filter --> Add Criterion.

This criterion is met if Traffic: Received for Client is less than
1024000000 (1GB)

"OK" Back to the System Policies Interface.

Now that we have the System Policies all set to control the Traffic
Quota, it is a matter of adjusting how each Server / Service interacts
with the System Policies (Default Rights).

In the WWW Proxy Server --> Policies, you need to set the System
Policies to "Must also be granted". Must also be granted means that if
the policies in the WWW Proxy Server allows access, then it must also
be allowed in the System Policies; i.e. must not be over the Quota.
Depending on how many Server / Services in WinGate your users use,
will depend on where you also set the “Must also be granted” option.

The following setting may also be a good idea:

*Make a policy that allows unlimited access to email.

System Policies --> Add --> Everyone group

Everyone Group Advanced tab --> Add Filter --> Add Criterion.

Filter 1.
This criterion is met if Server Port Equals 110

Filter 2
This criterion is met if Server Port Equals 25
OK Back to the System Policies Interface.

This will make sure they still receive email, even if they have exceeded the quota

This looks excellent, I'll give it a try.

Many thanks indeed for providing the details
