Why Wingate and not use SBS2008?

Postby grandnagas » Aug 18 09 1:48 pm

Hi,
I have used Wingate for years and found it easy to use an manage.

I am now installing a new server with SBS 2008 on it. If you believe MS it does everything.

Can anyone please tell me the pros and cons of using Wingate on a SBS 2008 machine, and why its better than the integrated stuff that MS provide?
Thanks

As SBS2008 no longer includes ISA Server as part of the suite, there is very little to compare. If you use WinGate on your SBS2008 server, you will get internet connection sharing features. If you don't use WinGate, then you won't get internet connection sharing features, unless you intend to use the Windows Firewall's built in connections sharing (a very basic routing solution), or purchase ISA seperately for your SBS server.
