Adding user, groups & assumed users

Postby sawi » Nov 25 09 5:33 pm

Hi all, just simple Question about adding users, groups & assumed users.

1. How many users & groups can i add? And if adding many users, it's affected wingate performance?
2. How many assumed users can i add? If adding many assumed users, it's affected wingate performance?

example
add users name A, then add 30 ip address assume as A, using policies A (example : policies A banned yahoo.com)
add users name B, then add 10 ip address assume as B, using policies B (example : policies B banned google.com but didn't banned yahoo.com)

Hi

Number of users and groups doesn't really affect performance, since they are stored in a map, so lookup is quick (hashed, not linear search). The only penalty is memory (small amount per user) and startup speed as it has to load them.

I presume you're talking about using the WinGate user database.

As for number of assumed users... that's a linear search, so the more you have, the slower it is to find a matching one, which happens on the creation of every session for an unknown IP. So that could start to slow things a bit if you have a very large number of assumed users.

You can use wild-cards in the assumed users though, e.g, assume 192.168.0.* is bob.
