WinGate and DNS in Win2K Domain

Postby Nikita V.Kornnyakov » Jan 10 04 10:12 pm

Please help to install DNS properly. I've got:
1. Windows 2000 Domain Controller as DNS-server (must I have routing to DNS of ISP?)
2. WinGate as Internet Proxy Server (must I have DNS?)
3. DNS server of ISP (where to add this DNS?)
4. Wingate Clients (must I add DNS into TCP/IP properties?)
Note! If i add DNS of ISP to TCP/IP properties on the Wingate computer, I can't connent some LAN resources as network printers.

Hi Nikita

Is this an Active Directory environment ?
If you want to configure WinGate to work in an Win2000 Active Directory I would suggest you take a look at the WinGate knowledge base on how to configure this.

http://support.qbik.com/index.php?_a=knowledgebase

Essentially in this scenario your clients DNS settings should point to the DNS server, for Active Directory stuff and inturn the DNS servers forward lookup setting should be set to the WinGate internal IP so that Internet requests will be forwarded to WinGate. DNS and DHCP services on the WinGate machine should be disabled as not to cause confusion with the DNS and DHCP servers in the AD.
