Wingate Dead folder

Sep 18 10 5:09 am

There are 2 folders, called "Sent" and "Dead". I have switched on the option to save emails that are sent by our users, and I presume these go in the "Sent" folder. We currently have quite a lot of emails also in the "Dead" folder - are these emails that failed to be sent off for some reason? Several users have complained that some of their emails are not reaching their destinations; if these have been stored in the "Dead" folder, what would be the likely reason(s) and why do the users not receive a message that delivery has failed? I feel like I've missed something really obvious but I can't see it for looking so hard.

Hi

yes, the dead folder contains emails that

a) couldn't be delivered and
b) couldn't be bounced.

They also contain messages that may have failed for some other reasons.

In any case, in all cases where we move a message to dead, we log the reason in the SMTP server log files - you might need to enable debug logging in the SMTP server to see these for more information on why they are failing.
