Hi there

Just a few questions so we can narrow the problem,
What settings did you put in WinGate?
Was "Lan Connections to the Internet" chosen? when you were setting the TCP port 4662 in ENS? This will allow the port to be open for clients trying to access this port to the Internet.

What type of connection method NAT,Wgic ,Proxy are your clients using when they use emule?

Erwin

Hi Erwin,
i have selected all 3 settings on port 4664. I also need to use udp port 8152, which i've enabled, and set for all 3 aswell. i've set no time out aswell on both. on my client machines, i've told them to use a proxy server, and giving the ip address of my wingate server, using socks 5, running on port 1080.

Msn messenger works on all my clients perfect, running through socks 5, port 1080.

To make the issue a little stranger to debug ( maybe this is a help!!!), wheni load edonkey onto my wingate server, it connects, but after a minute or so it disconnects.......i'm completely confused.....

many thanks for your time and help....

Hi irishgirl,

well I got it working. However suggest you use e-mule instead of e-donkey. Both apps however are quite critical when it comes to the ports used alongwith firewalls and routes. Suggest you have a look at the following page: http://emule.sourceforge.net/faq/ports.htm which will give you a good idea about the ports you have to open on the server.

Depending on the the o/s you are using in case it is WINXP or Server2003 you might also want to have a look at the built-in firewall and disable the same because with this firewall enabled you will never be able to connect ...

Yep, makes sense because you can only search once you're connected to a server. Suggest you try downloading something small but be patient. For me sometimes it takes upto a day until a download starts ...

However with regards to the ports you shouldn't be using similar port numbers. Suggest for the beginning you stick to the port numbers e-donkey/e-mule suggest and give it a try. Once it works you might want to try different port numbers (have a look at the e-mule faq-page about the effect of using different portnumbers). Nice weekend to you!
