xp client 98se server don't work

Postby neale » Jan 16 04 3:34 am

Hi

I've got wingate running as a server on a 98 se machine and its been running well. Then we upgraded a client pc to xp and now we can't get the xp machine to work. it can't see the server. each pc can ping each other and the firewall is off. each pc can see and access each other on the network

we use static ip addresses on both machines and we are trying to share a dsl modem.

any idea what i need to look at. i've tried many things but nothing has worked. i've got wingate workin on 98 and 95 machines before but xp has me stumped

I've used the xp cd to run a networking wizard on the 98se machine but that didn't do anything.

any help greatly appreciated

thanks

I have exactly the same problem, I have all the PC's in the office networked using win98se all running wingate software, and I have upgraded one pc to XP.
The Server version is running on a 98se PC.
And I have installed the client software on to the XP system.

I can see the server listed under the Wingate servers tab
however I cannot get internet explorer to use wingate to access the web.
Any one know what I would need to do?

I've now got it working.
I had Mcafee Virusscan running with the HAWK option enabled, I have now disabled this and it's all working ok.

Have you got a virus scanner installed?

XP's network setup wizard does some strange things. Erwin did some investigation on this and came up with the reason. Have a look at this post http://forums.qbik.com/viewtopic.php?t= ... tup+wizard.

Thanks for that . I had read that and have tried it but it didn't work as the xp machine is a one nic machine. Also the other 98 machine on the network now does not find the server either.

I think running the xp network stuff (as ms suggests) on my 98 server machine has stuffed wingate up.

I'll keep trying to reinstall etc

Any other suggestions appreciated.

Solved.

It turned out I hadn't registered the new (upgraded) version of wingate that I had installed (to try and solve the problem). Once i had registered it it all worked.

Thanks for all your help!
