How to block exe,mp3 file downloads?

Hello,
Is it possible to block exe,mp3 etc... file downloads using WinGate?
or can i specify something like.... do not allow if filesize exceeds 1 MB or something...

Currently I have ADSL connection with 1MB download stream, but with limitation of standard volume capacity of 4 GB monthly, I have tried all what is possible to block mp3, mpeg, wav, zip etc... file downloads using Wingate 5.2.2.
How can I prevent users from downloading those files?

The easiest way is to set it up in the policies. You can refer to the following topic, where Larry describes the process in detail.

Dear Pascal,

I did all what you want to say in the link that you provided http://forums.qbik.com/viewtopic.php?t=612

Even I have deleted the history files, but users are still able to download.

But When I did the following:
1. Transparent Redirection checked under WWW Proxy - Sessions tab
2. Default Rights - Are Ignored under the Policies tab.

No one were able to browse anything!!!

Can you tell if the Transparent Redirect or the Default Rights caused the problem?

Could you open GateKeeper - Options - Advanced - copy the WWW Proxy Server information and post it here?

Ok...cool
i managed to do it...
but i cant get it work userwise i gave it for everyone...

here is what i did...

WWW Proxy [properties] - Everyone - Ban List - Add - HTTP URL ends with .exe or any extention u want to block..

now the problem here is...
it works only when u give proxy address and port in proxy settings of IE or any other browser.

but when u dont put anything...everything works...
i still donno how to block access when anyone tries accessing withou putting the ip and port in proxy settings in their browser...

working on it for last 3 hrs but cant get it work...

That would indicate that Transparent Redirection is not enabled for this service.

actually i tried it..but it didnt help me out...actually i m too confuded between WWW Proxy policies and System Policies donno where to give the rights :(

Assign the rights to the WWW Proxy Policies.
Set that policy to "Ignore System Rights"

That will be the easiest, least confusing as well.

Have you setup the appropriate rights on the WWW Proxy, though ? If you have no users/groups listed, nobody will be able to browse, because they will have no rights.

However, if you add a right for "Everyone" and then specify the different criterion for what you want blocked (E.g. for mp3 / exe / zip / etc.) then they will have access to everything BUT those.

Hi Deep,

It works fine for me here...all the clients cant download like *.exe, *.zip, & etc...

Try this:

1. Remove the "Everyone" user in the WWW Proxy Server at the Policies Section.
2. After removing it, pls click add button and choose "Guest" user.
3. After adding the "Guest" user, double click it...under the ban list tab. Pls add or choose "HTTP URL ends with .exe" to deny this type of file to be downloaded. Click OK
4. Use the default rights (system policies) "are ignored" and "user access to this service". Then click apply, ok, and save the configuration.

Test it and tell me what happen...
