there are several things to check to see if the install went along.

1. Look for the driver file in your System32\Drivers directory. If this file isn't there, then the installer did not install the ENS. If you are absolutely certain that you selected to install the ENS, then let us know, but we have never seen this before. You could try running the installer again.

the driver file is called Qbikhk??.sys (?? = XP, 2k, NT etc depending on your OS) or on win95, win98 or ME called qbikhk??.vxd

If the file is there, then the installer will have at least tried to install the ENS driver. The next thing to look for would be in the registry:

2(a) on NT/2k/XP look under

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\System\CurrentControlSet\Services\Qbikhk??

If this key is there, then the driver was installed. If it is not loading for some reason, check the key under this called \Parameters\BootStatus. This value needs to be greater than 0 in order for the driver to load.

2(b) on 95/98/ME look under

hmmmmm, don't know!!! gonna have to look this one up... what OS are you running? I'll come back later and edit this post when I have the details.

3. on NT/2k/XP etc do you get a message on system boot saying a driver or service failed to start? Check in the event log viewer to see if the driver is not loading.

Same problem with ENS

Postby w.bodde » Feb 07 04 1:20 am

I have the same problem and I checked all your tips.

We run a 2003 server with exchange 2003 and IIS installed.
This is the exact error:

Object: ENS
Time: 06-Feb-2004 13:00:35
Message ID: 0704
Description: The ENS driver was not loaded. This may mean that it is missing or has been disabled. Press F1 for further details on possible causes and remedies.

Could you please give me more to work with.

yours sincerely,

I have a similar issue - except that ENS says its running, but when I look at the NAT log the service has stopped. Consequently, cant get to web unless proxy is used. This is on 5.2.2 from the point I installed on a single Win 2K Server with AD (Domain controller). The NAT Stopped log entry iIs the only one dated the install date. I have just seen the guidance on AD and Wingate. I am going to stop DNS and DHCP first to see what happens.
