Going to AD

Postby stobby256 » Nov 27 13 2:07 am

Hi All.

Not quite urgent but it's been niggling me.

I currently have one Server on 2012, just as simple file sharing, with Wingate installed and some 13 clients all running the Wingate client. All working tickety-boo :)

My question is...

At present, the DG and DNS settings for the PCs are to this Wingate server as is necessary. When I introduce a Domain Controller next year, the DG and DNS will point to the domain controller for a successful logon of course. This leaves each client to access the Wingate server.... an another Ip address (on the same subnet of course).

Ideas?

Why would you point the default gateway to the domain controller?

Hi

Actually there's no need to change the DNS or default gateway. WinGate (if the computer it is on is also added to the domain) will forward the DNS lookups for the AD domain to the AD server.

Otherwise if you point the clients DNS to the AD DNS server, you'll need to set forwarders in the AD DNS server so that it can look up internet names.
