For years I have been trying to get multiple gateways working in Wingate and I have never managed to get it working completely. Hopefully someone can help me out here.
Currently we are using Wingate 8.2.1.4711
The problem is that internally everything mostly seems to be working correctly BUT externally incoming connections are regularly getting disconnected. After a few seconds to a few minutes the connection is restored. My users mainly notice this while using outlook from on the road/home. Outlook pops up a message that the connection is broken and after some time a new message pops up that the connection has been restored. The same happens for myself with remote control software, suddenly the picture freezes and I get disconnected. If I reestablish the connection I can go further again sometimes for a few seconds, sometimes a few minutes and sometimes for hours before getting disconnected again. When working with a single gateway these problems disappear.
Currently I am using 2 gateway's on the same interface but I have also tried multiple external nic's (one for each internet connection).
My current settings (if others are needed please let me know)
Windows server 2003 R2 Standard Edition SP2
Wingate 8.2.1.4711
2 nic's
Internal network:
IP: 192.168.10.1 subnet: 255.255.254.0 no gateway, automatic gateway checked
External network:
IP: 10.0.1.1 subnet: 255.255.255.0 first default gateway: 10.0.1.2 metric 1 second default gateway 10.0.1.4 metric 1 and automatic gateway checked.
10.0.1.2 is an ADSL modem and 10.0.1.4 is a Cable modem.
Settings for my external exchange access service:
Service port: 443
Time out idle connections: true
after: 1800
Default mapping enabled: true
Destination: 192.168.10.240
Destination port: 443
ssl and client certificate: false
Binding: Bind only to 10.0.1.1 on Internet (the internet nic)
Gateways: Use all specified connections in rotation, Connect through 10.0.1.2 using internet (our adsl modem)
ENS enabled
NAT on
Support for multiple subnetworks on
Monitor for dead gateways on
Firewall on
There is no wingate service for my remote administrator connection (which also has this problem), this is running on the server itself and I guess the traffic is just being handled by windows and the ens driver.
Any advice is welcome!
