Wingate blocks Youtube videos

Oct 03 14 3:21 am

Hi,

My co-worker did something to our Wingate but don't remember what. :(

For specific users, youtube videos are blocked. They can access the web page, but the video doesn't play. I would like to remove this restriction, or at least, configure it to unblock some of these specific users.

(If I remove the proxy, the video play fine)

Thanks

Martin

Hi Martin. The first place I would look would be WebAccess Control->Access Rules. Your co-worker might have added a new rule that blocks certain media. One way to check this can be to go to youtube and attempt to watch a video. If a rule is blocking that then you should see the HitCount increase for the rule that caused the block.

Let us know how you get on

Hi AAron, thanks for the quick reply.

I use an old version of Wingate (6.6.4). I dont see WebAccess Control.

In this case, it will be in the policies in the WWW proxy.

Since WinGate 6 policy is "additive" - any policy you create adds more access than what was there before, you could just create a new policy granting specifically access to the URLs to the users involved.

Otherwise you'd need to analyse the policies there to see what is causing the issue.
