No modules in WinGate7

Aug 14 15 2:59 pm

Hi!

I've used WinGate7 before and it's fantastic, so I decided to build a dedicated server for it.
Specs first:

Pentium 3 (Tualtin) 1.4Ghz
4GB ECC SDRAM
2x Intel PRO100 Server Adapter (NIC)
Windows 2000 Server Advanced W/SP4

The Issue:
After installing WinGate7 and firing up the management interface I am greeted with this:
https://drive.google.com/file/d/0B7OL6MIZst3YMjJYam5zWGpZaEE/view?usp=sharing (<- Image hosted on Google Drive since .bmp's aren't allowed as uploads :( )
A blank WinGate install....
No HTTP Cache, no proxy server, nothing.

I'm at a loss as to what's going on.
I want WinGate for it's HTTP cache and currently, WinGate6 works. However, I don't feel it's worth buying a license for what is now, essentially old software (I see WinGate8 is now out)

Any clues as to a solution?
Thanks!

HI

can you check the log files? From memory (wg7 is a few years old now) it only looks like that if the AD connector fails to connect to the domain

I take it it didn't ask for a user/pass to log in?

Which user database are you using?

Regards

Adrien

I'll reinstall Wingate7 to get you the logs (I uninstalled it to get Wingate6 going)
I actually have no domain setup right now - it's just a fresh install

It did ask for a username and pass when I launched the management tool, I left those blank and it logged it and I did see it synchronizing the modules like it should...

Now the database.... I will get you a screenshot of that as it's glitched out. Hard to explain without a picture.

Thanks Adrien!

Alright, here's the log and a few pictures to help explain.

Log -> https://drive.google.com/file/d/0B7OL6MIZst3YQ0ExSFp6SkthVnc/view
Userdatabase -> https://drive.google.com/file/d/0B7OL6MIZst3Yb2dUUFNqU2JGN0k/view

For some reason, all the user database choices are messed up as you see... I have no idea why...
Also, it didn't ask me for a username or password, I did say that it did ask me, but I must have been thinking about Wingate 6.6.4 =/

Also here's a picture of the modules - they are all loaded yet I still have a blank interface...

Bump?

There must be some solution..
Also, is Wingate 8 64bit? Installer won't even open on my server.... (32 bit)

Hi

We have seen that problem before with the user database choices. I guess it must have been fixed in some version of WinGate 8.

The problem is WinGate 8 won't run on windows 2000, because Visual Studio 2010 won't allow you to build a program that will run on win2k, so we had to drop support for win2k when we put out WinGate 8.

Do you have any options for another OS? Even XP will run WinGate 8.

Not really.

I have a key for Server 2008 R2, but that's 64bit... If only I had a key for Server 2008.

I like Wingate 7 because i can see that the cache is actually working, Wingate6? not so much.
Or is there some way to see if the cache is working?

Wingate6 works enough for me, but there's no free license option like Wingate7.
This is just a test to see how the server preforms, but the 30 day trial isn't long enough for me to conclude if it works out.

Hi

64bit is fine, WinGate works great on 2k8 R2

That's just it. Pentium 3's are 32bit CPU's... Server 2008 R2 won't run on it.

So it's either stick with Wingate6, switch to Squid for my cache proxy or fork out (If I can find a copy) the money for Server 2008 and hope it works.....

There's no known solution as to why Wingate7 won't run on Server 2000 Adrien?

WinGate 7 was supported on 2k

it's just been so long it's hard to remember what the cause of that issue was.

If you like, we can take a look at your system remotely (e.g. Teamviewer) to see if we can get it running.

If you open a support ticket (email support@wingate,com, or go to http://support.qbik.com) we can get that started.

Adrien

Thanks Adrien. Yes I do have Teamviewer installed, but I have a satellite internet so it may not be the best option.
Regardless, I sent an email to the address you supplied. Hopefully we can work out the issue within the little free time I have.

Would setting up an Active Directory solve the database issue?

This issue has been RESOLVED thanks to the great work of Adrien!

The root problem was Wingate.exe's digital signature being invalid resulting in the events engine not running.
Since the OS was Server 2000, the GlobalSign ROOT CA certificate was expired (expired in 2014). Adrien updated that cert and now Wingate7 is running perfectly!

For those who find this thread with this issue, check to see if your ROOT CA certs are expired and if so, see if there is a way to update them. GlobalSign's website provides downloads of the new certificates it seems, I would NOT recommend downloading a certificate from some other unknown source just for peace of mind.
