Problem with network connection after migration to WinGate8

Sep 14 15 8:57 pm

We were using WinGate 6 as Proxy for years without problems ( 20+ users working daily with it ). Few months ago we upgraded two of our proxy servers to WinGate 8 and then we started behaving weird problems:
- at least 3 times per week we are loosing connection to our Proxy Server from endpoints. Machines used for proxy are the same that we used for WinGate 6, both Win7 based.
- when it happen ping doesn't reach proxy server
- when I log in to the server through console all I can see in network card status is only lack of Internet Connection but it thinks that it has access to local network (which it hasn't because I can't ping anything in the network from that PC)
- then I've tried to disable and enable network card -> enabling was not possible, red cross on network card status.
- only restart of Proxy server helps.

We already updated network card drivers, updated WinGate8 to the latest version and nothing helps.
Problem seems to occur more often when more people works with it (we switched our other department to our proxy temporarily and it started to happen twice a day).
It looks like it's a problem with software and not with hardware because it happens on both of our proxy servers.

What could be the problem?
What could we do to solve this situation?
Do you need more data?

Any help will be appreciated.

Hi

We have seen a couple of cases of this, most recent one was resolved by disabling flow-control and Receive Side Scaling in the network adapter advanced properties. You could try this.

Did you also update the OS that the proxy runs on? Is it 2012 Server?

We also recommend increasing the number of network buffers in the driver to minimum 4096. This is in the first tab of the WinGate Advanced Options app, which is wgoptions.exe in the WinGate program folder.

Hi,

thank you for your suggestions.
Last week I've set proposed options and rebooted Proxy PC's. Today problem happened again on one of them - proxy was unreachable in the network.
I've checked again wgoptions.exe and there I saw that new setting ( 4096 ) was not applied - it went back to default 512. I've set it again, did reboot and again there was 512. Why is default option getting restored?

Answering your question about OS, I stated in first post that both machines runs under Windows 7 x64 and it wasn't a problem before while working with WinGate 6.

Hi

I think if WGOptions is not properly storing setting changes it's to do with permissions and which account you are running in. try running WGOptions.exe as administrator.
