Local Network very slow

Postby Chris.S » Feb 24 16 11:14 pm

Hello,

Newby here, and I have a question. ;-)
I have installed Wingate on a new server for the Proxy purpose for 3 clients.
The Proxy part works perfect!

But, when I try to copy files from my computer or from another Server to this server over the Windows Explorer transfer speeds only reaches 33-35 Kbps...
Anyone any idea if I have to set an option for local traffic also?

The Proxy part is only intended for internet access for the 3 Clients.
For the rest we want to use this server for other purposes.

I hope you know what I mean..

With kind Regards,

Hi Chris,

Welcome!

WinGate should not be interfering with your local network. If you go to the Network Connections panel can you check that your LAN adapter is marked as INTERNAL and your Internet adapter is marked as EXTERNAL?

I wonder if it's a routing issue, can you make sure that if you have two adapters you don't have a default gateway listed on your internal adapter?

Thanks,

Matt

Hello Matt,

Thanks for the reply.
I have Two Adapters, called "incoming" and "outgoing" (what's in a name ey? ;-) )
And indeed; one with, and one without a Gateway.
The Proxy server works like a charm!

But I tested; when I stop the Wingat engine I can copy a file as usual at a normal intern speed. (a file of 120MB copies in about 2~3 seconds)
But as soon as I Start the Wingate Engine its done... the speed is Gone... (the same file takes about 2 minutes to copy)

Any more ideas?

P.s. I've already tried disabling the Extended Networking Options, but the server didn't like it very much...

GreetZ!

Hi Chris,

When you said you tried disabling the Extended Networking options, do you mean you set the driver to not load at startup and then rebooted? That should disable the driver and then WinGate will just run as a proxy. That would be a good option to try, as without the driver the firewall won't be present.

Hello MattP,

Indeed, disabling the Driver did the trick, but I had to uncheck the driver manually on the properties tab of both the network connections.
Unfortunally, it was not doing it automatically for me.

Now i've noticed that Authentication is gone...
Do I need Extended Networking Options for authentication on Proxy Connections?

Looking forward to you ideas...

With kind Regards,

Chris

...hello, me again...

Never mind my question about authentication; I've found out I forgot to set the Filter in the WWWProxy service...
All is working fine now!

Thanks for all the support!

With kind Regards!
